I'll play... probably no where near the oldest but here is mine I've had for 5 years. It survived 1 1000 mile move & 4 tank transfers.

Started in a 2 gallon w/13w PC while the 10 gallon was cycling. About 2.5 inches long.

In the 10 gallon 96W PC for about a year, year and a half on the sand bed.

Then to a 20GH on the sandbed with 150W halide for about 2.5 years.

Survived a freak accident mouse drowning in my sump killing 75% of my tank.
Then this year moved into a nice 75G with 250w MH's, its now larger than my plastic 6 inch ruler but I'd say not more than 7 inches max.

This is one of my croceas in my 55. This one's been under T5 for two years, and my other spent two years under 330w VHO, coming up on another two under of 270w T5 in.

jovreefer, your pix could have been taken in my tank...a 54 with 1 250 mh Reeflux 12000 and 2 actinics, 12 hrs actinic, 8 mh, good flow, lots of lps, kalk drip. My crocea is maxed out, as I understand it, about 5 inches, about 5 rows of scutes added since I got him. He insisted on being on the sand no matter how many times I tried to put him in the rock. This went on all the year I had my first incarnation of this tank. WHen I moved and increased flow considerably, with a fuge and kalk drip, I noted him trying to attach to bits of things. And nestled him in a pedestal made of a dead piece of monti cap. 2 years and going strong on whatever goes in the tank: I don't feed him special.

He is almost 2 will be in November. Has only grown about an inch or so. I also have a tiny one that I got last January and he has grown about an inch as well. Seems to me that the smaller they are the faster they grow and the larger the slower. Not sure if that is the case but it is for me.

I'm told they max out at about 5" and that clams may live over a century...the record being about 600 years?
Mine almost never slimes, so he must be liking what he sucks in. Extension is always 100%. This is him putting out byssal threads, once he finally (after a year and a half) wanted to settle. http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f269/Sk8r10/cameraaccidenttoAugust061.jpg
And this is him after he got his pedestal: he's delighted with this, apparently.

mine does from time to time but it usually happens when my duncan gets a little ridiculous. funny that you mention it. got home last night and he was completely closed for some reason have no idea what was going on. my cleaner shrimp as you can see drive him nuts from time to time but I have tried and tried and can't do anything about them hanging out in one spot. oh well. I did a large carbon change which was a little odd and tested my alk and it was a little low. around the 7.9 range. bumped it up to around 9.3/9.4 and ran the carbon and it was almost instantaneous. came out in full extension. not sure what caused the alk drop that quick or maybe it was just overtime.

Mine is well over 5 inches clearly crocea so there is no way they max out at 5 inches. It has not really grown at all in the past year though that I can see.
