Just setting up a refugium and was wondering if i would benefit more from the dsb or would it be more hassle? Ive ordered the cheato and it should be here tomorrow.
Cheers guys.

I have always been a believer in dsb. Never seem to have a problem with them. I had a dsb in my display of the old lps reef tank for a year and a half. I have one now in my fuge with chaeto for over a year. Nitrates have always been zero due to its denitrification benefits.

do you leave your lights on 24/7 in the fuge?

Bare bottom. I did 3 inches of sand (i know its not a dsb) but it just collects crap and im sure just throws off phos.
I am a believer in cheato only fugs

half(BB) and half(DSB) and half(LR), mainly because i ran out of sand.
* I know that adds to two three halves, my fuge is crazy like that ;)

I run my fuge lights opposite of the display tank.

I'm with mazilla... go with 3 halves
DSB and LR, stock fuge with its own CUC and let the cheato tumble (add a powerhead if need be) and run lights opposite of tank to keep a stable pH
That's what I plan on doing if I ever get my #%*( sump plumbed
