Ok, I made a mistake before I left for travel this past week and I want to make sure I have everything back on track...
I have a 260 gallon tank with a 75 gallon sump 40 gallon fuge and 20 gallon frag tank...
I have been getting great growth and was afraid i would not be able to monitor and keep up with the changing Ca and Mg needs, so I bumped up my Dose rate on my Kalk reactor and dose some Mg... I shot for 1400, but ended up at 1500...
Here is what I saw when I got back...my Alk went from about 9 to 12.5 my Ca dropped to about 380 from 440 and some of the corals are much lighter than they were before I left...
My pH dropped from 8.2 to 8.1 but I think this is due to the spike in Mg and Alk...but correct me if I am wrong...
Here is what I have done...
I did an 80 gallon water change yesterday, and a 40 gallon change today...I shut off my Kalk reactor, the Ca reactor is still going, just by water changes I have Ca back to 410, and Mg is about 1450...I added some liquid Ca to bring it to 430 and plan to dose the rest to get back to 450...
I think the spike in Alk and Mg and the resulting low Ca due to precipitation (I think) is what casue some of the corals to look not so hot...i think they will all be fine, but the lighter coral really freaked me out and I want to make sure there is not something else I need to be thinking...
Temp is stable 79+/1 1 degree and PO4 is not detectible...
Thanks is you can just ease my mind or tell me something I my have overlooked...
Jason
