so, I installed my ACIII and it works fine via the local address. 192.168.1.250. I then set about setting up the port forwarding (set 4801 to go to 192.168.1.250 and also put in exceptions for my firewall for port 4801. However, when I type in the webaddress http://72.197.230.250:4801, I can't access the webserver.

I am pretty sure the router is setup correctly because my ACjr which is hosting the aquanotes webserver is setup the same way but using .254:4800 and it is reachable via the web.

http://72.197.230.254:4800/AquaNotes/index.asp

Two immediate questions, what does the DNS server need to be set to and should the http server be changed from 80 on the ACIII. I figure is has to be a setting issue on the ACIII.

I am also pretty sure that the gateway and IP address of the ACIII are oK.

Any thoughts.

If your router does not allow port redirection (incoming port 4801 goes to aquacontroller port 80), then yes you will to change the http port on the AquaController to 4801 too. Reboot the controller after making the change.

Does anyone know if the linksys wrt54gs supports redirection? I'm also wondering if i didn't set the DNS server's correctly. I left them the same as my local ip address.

The DNS address doesn't matter except for emails. Set the DNS server to the ip address of your router. Don't know about the wrt54gs. I personally use dlink routers, and they do have port redirection.

I think all LinkSys routers support port forwarding in some manner (at least I cannot think of any that do not).

Wow this is really frustrating. I thought this ACIII setup would be easier than my jr with a computer but boy was I wrong.

I still can't reach the ACIII from outside my local network.

anybody have a linksys setup that they could share their settings?

It shouldn't be that difficult so starting at the internal connection....

If the internal connection is working then you need to make 1 change on the router. The setting is in the Game section of the router and it would be to setup a port forward to your AC3. The router you have needs the destination address and port range (you would set port start and finish to the same value). Be sure to check the "enable" button for the forward. Nothing else is required; no rules, nothing!

If you are still stuck, give us a call 408-578-3022 when you are in front of the controller.

got this working. I'm an idiot and was using the local fourth octet instead of the internet one. It works like a charm now. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
