Amount of Time Lights Are On - Thoughts?

In several different threads, people provided their opinion on how many hrs tank lights should be on. However, there seems to be no consensus.

I have three 400W metal halide bulbs and 2 tank length T-5 bulbs.

I leave the metal halides on for 7 hrs (from 5pm - 12am) and the T-5 bulbs kick in 30 minutes prior and stay on 30 minutes post, and stay on the entire time the metal halides are on.

What is everyone's thoughts on how long the bulbs should be on? I have a few pieces of acro (fyi in case it changes your answer).

I have a mixed reef and until yesterday kept my lights on from 2pm-9pm 7 days per week. I have switched that up now from 12pm-9pm lengthening my lighting time. I am running a current usa sunpod 2 x 150 hqi with 18 blue and white moon lights. Seems to work for me. Just my 2 cents.
