I will be setting up a huge system soon but I wont be able to get to it for several months so until then everything is crammed into my 55 gallon. Currently it is covered in pulsing xenia and packed with live rock. I have a lg purple tang, a flame hawk, damsel, and a huge 8-10" engineering goby. I have 4 T5 bulbs over it

Currently my filtration is a baby waterfall filter I had laying in the garage (I know this wont suffice). What should I do? I really dont think I need to set up a refuge with a snap on back over flow box but i know my nitrates/ammonia wont stay low for long!

Since I have a lot of live rock and a 4-5 inch sand can I just get a protein skimmer to run my tank?

WHAT BACK PAC SKIMMER FOR A 55 GALLON DO YALL SUGGEST?

I sadly sold my back pac skimmer!!!!!

Is there any way you can catch the rock mover and the damsel? Do you want them in your 300? That would be the first thing I would do....

For skimmers this site and many others like it have trading/selling forums you could hop on and find a skimmer that would work and then pass it on when you have your 300 up and running. A coralife superskimmer or turbofloater have proven themself to me in the past. CPR, reef octo, and just about any high priced skimmer seems to work great. If you are concerned with filtration you could add a drillable tank that sits higher than your display and make your display the "sump" for your skimmer holder... that way you could buy the skimmer for your 300 setup and use it now.... just a thought.

I have a lot of experience and definately know what im doing, mainly when it comes to larger tanks with in sump skimmers and external skimmers such as deltec BK and Reeflo. I have honestly never used a HOB skimmer lol thats why I was asking for some info, I might just try for a CPR back pac, I have heard good things.
