Do you guys dose your 2 part into your sump or into your display tank? Im manually dosing it by hand and it says to add to an area of high water movement. But I was thinking it would be a shock to the sps everytime alkalinity is poured over them???

DT, did that when i had sps in a 28g tank. as long as you dont dump the whole thing at the same time youll be fine. when you add alk just add it slowly where theres lots of current, but make sure it doesnt get blown to the corals, you might get some alk burn if alk raises too fast

minute or so later ill add the calcium part as well

+1 DT. Just add it slowly into flow. It dissapates quickly. I just set up an auto doser and that drips it in pretty slowly.

I dose in the sump, I would think most people that have a sump would dose there. JMO

I just learned the hard way not to dose in the DT. I use a medicine dropper and add one drop at a time in a high flow area. Been doing that in the same place for a couple months with no problems. The bad part is I a moved a coral and the alk was blown right on it and I did not notice. Next time I looked 1/2 of the coral was totally bleached.

I will never dose in the display tank again.

Do you have an overflow? That's where I dump my 2-part.

I have automatic dosing and it goes into my sump.

I just dump like 30ml's of each straight into the middle of my tank about 10 seconds after one another. No problems yet, have lots of sps and stuff up top.

Although the cloud disappears in about 2 seconds, so I think the flow is high enough to no harm anything.

I do not have a sump so thats not an option and dipped it in slowly is a pain (or im just lazy when I wake up and dose).

Depends on your flow and location.
I dose mine to DT infront of a 2000gph pump, in a corner.

But like cveverly said, if you dose in low flow near corlas bad, bad things will happen. Like really bad.

The sump will work as long as you have good flow through it and not to neary any pumps. Either that or clean your pumps often cause they'll cake pretty fast.

Yeah I agree, flow in the area is the key. I have 2 K3's and 1 K4 pointing to the middle of my 55g and that is where I dump it, the cloud goes into a whirlwind and is then gone.

I may start dosing more slowly to see if I find changes?

DT as I'm currently sumpless... I dose into the highest flow area at the back of my tank where it can thin out before coming into contact with any corals... I use the "pour it in s-l-o-w-l-y" method about an hour after lights out when I dose my aminos and coral food

Will probably dose in sump if I ever manage to get mine online

i also dose mine in the sump, it will eventually make it to the return section of my sump.

Is it only alkalinity that I have to worry about dosing slowly into the tank or calcium too??

Both can irritate organisms if they do not disperse before hitting them.

i usually dose in the return section since it seems to get mixed up pretty good in there and gets watered down a bit before entering the display

Get a sump! A 10 gallon tank is only 12.99

I always dosed right where the overflows empty into the sump.
