Quite One 4000 is the other pump I'm looking into. Its got the right output and has low wattage. I've read a couple of reviews that say they have problems restarting and i've read a couple reviews saying they are good pumps. Does anyone here have any experience with them? Thanks

I've had one for 1.5 years. It's quiet and reliable so far. I have had start up issues only when there's calcium accumulation in the pump. When it doesn't start, I soak it in vinegar to clean it and it starts right up.

My roommate and I have both used QO 2200 without any problems for over 6 months now. Always restarts, runs quiet (his is in his room) and I would definitely buy one again. I really like them, but thats just my 2 cents. HTH

I have been using Quiet One pumps for awhile now and I really like them. Quiet, and pretty powerful. Low wattage. Great pumps!

Thanks guys for your info. Its worth a try for me to get one. If not, i can always go back to my engergy hog, the mag-drive.

At one time they had a bad run on their pumps 4000 and higher but seem to have fixed it.

Just last week I had my second one go up in flames literally. I would not wish one on my worst enemy.
Ocean Runner and Eheim would both be much much better choices and last forever.

i have a 4000 which replaced a mag 9.5; it runs nicely, quietly and uses half the power!

It's all I ever use. Affordable, reliable, low heat, never had problems with one... great pumps!

How in the world did that happen?

Garbage. Not like their older models which were super reliable. I have a 3000 that constantly stalls and will not restart unless it is banged around or the front cover is rotated off.

I did some reading on RC about Mag Drives, Eheim, Quiet One, and Ocean Runner. I choose the Ocean Runner and have been very pleased. It is quiet, reliable, and lower wattage. I have had an Eheim and I didn't see that it was any better than my OR at half the cost.

I had a 9000 for a week.... sent it back - VERY noisy!

Both of mine developed a hole in the side allowing water to come out and get to the windings. Very ugly.

I've tossed more Quiet One pumps into the garbage than any other brand. A couple of years ago I was talked into buying several Quiet Ones for a lab I run, was promised the old problems were solved and offered a good price. Toasted 2 model 1200's and 2 model 9000's. None lasted for more than year

In contrast, I've had numerous Mag Drives last numerous years worth of abuse and till keep running. I've also got a small Ocean Runner (small by an aquaculturist's standards :D ) that is the main return on my 55 at home that has lasted trouble free for about 3 years so far.

I had the same problem w/ my 3000. I ran it externally and it was very painful to re-start it. I tried the vinegar soak and started to run it submerged and it didn't make any difference. I sent it to the big toilet bowl in the sky.

have been running a Quiet One 2200 for 6 weeks, and yesterday, I would have told you it was great. But you can add me to the list of people that say Quiet One pumps are garbage.

When I do a water change, I cut off my pumps. Last week during my water change the Quiet One pump had a hard time restarting, I switched it to a different surge protector and it worked, so I attributed it to a bad surge protector. After my water change today, the thing wouldn't restart again. I tried a different power strip, unplugged it again and again, tried tapping on it... it was dead. It shouldn't be doing this after just 6 weeks. So I disassembled the thing, which was actually very easy, I cleaned it and put it back together and now it's working fine again, but I don't trust it as far as I can throw my mother-in-law.

I wish I had taken advise on this forum and bought a different pump. In this case, money saved has become money lost.
