I've noticed a lot of lfs have Scooter Blennys scooting around the bottoms of their tanks. Should this be a fish I need to consider getting, and if so, what are the benefits of having one in your tank?

No.

More stress, a difficult fish to keep, having to maintain a suitable population of life food.
The name "blenny" is very deceiving for this fish. It's actually part of the Dragonet family and is a very difficult fish to keep. Doing some research on the "mandarin dragonet" will give you an idea of the requirements for this fish.
In a nutshell, a general guide is
- 75lb of Live Rock, or a suitable sized refugium
- An established tank of 12mnths age+
- An abundent supply of copepods for it to eat.
These fish live off live food, and will seldom take prepared foods. If feeding on prepared foods, they will still require an established tank with live foods as the primary source of nutrients.
Hope this helps :)

No worries :)
If you are looking for a blenny/goby type fish. My personal recommendation is a "Wheeler Shrimp Goby". Awesome little fish, very peaceful and easy to care for.

Not that I'm disputing what is being said about the scooters. But, from my own personal experience these fish have been great & extremely easy to keep. No where near as difficult as the Mandarin Dragonets.
I have two scooter blennys in my 150g since the beginning with very little & no live food. I have no refugium and they seem to eat whatever falls to the bottom. I guess there are always exceptions to the rule. Just not sure if mine are the exception or the ones talked about.
Good luck!

i also got a scooted maybe 5 weeks ago, at first i was nervous because he wouldnt eat brine shrimp frozen foods or flakes.
he does however eat mysis shrimp frozen and seems to skip around happy and pick at the left overs.
ask lfs to show him eating mysis and if he does, u should be good to go. i think they are pretty funny to watch

You can even get scooters to eat pellets quite easily. They do require more attention than the average fish, but not as much as a mandarin.

Okay, thanks guys. I'll research them a little more and decide. I just think it is hysterical how they scoot. You almost don't see them, they're so quick and then they stop on a dime. Too funny!
Thanks again :)

As I mentioned. They are actually a Scooter Dragonet. An awesome fish, but a copepod eater.
