I just bought a 180 and plan on setting it up over the next month. But have a few questions. I plan on going with octopus extreme 200 or 250 for a skimmer. Is this a good choice? Will the 200 be fine? I plan on using a 30g or a 50g for the sump. All I am going to have in it are 2 heaters a skimmer and the returns so I dont need much space. What are the BEST heaters out there? I will have a controller for them but what are the best or what would be good for this sized tank? And I plan on having 2x MAG 7s for the returns. I will have 2 smaller pumps so if one fails then the other will keep the sump running. And same with the heaters. So what are your ideas for skimmers and heaters? I want the skimmer to be as quiet as it can.

good skimmer for the money, and ebo jager are the best heaters imo

octo extremes are good skimmers, but I like C&C skimmers slightly better, for the same money better build quality and air draw with pinwheels and no mesh issues.

Any other opinions on skimmers and heaters? This will be a full blown SPS tank. With a normal sized bioload.

Great skimmers, you will like the Octopus price build and performance. I would get a bigger sump ofr a 180. I would go with a 55 at least but a 75 gallon would be ideal.

I have an Octo external recirculating skimmer on my 180, love it. It was a great price and it's designed really well.

For heaters, I've got 2 Jalli 500W Titanium heaters($39 each) /controllers ($25 each). They work great.

I tried a 40long and I could not even get that in. So it will have to be under 48". Would it work if I had 2x 30 gals or something like that. The tank has 2 overflows so could I have one drain go into one of the sump and the other in the other sump and have a return in each one? So it would be like having a sump for each overflow.

Something like this, 2 smaller sump rather then 1 larger.
