My AGA 40 breeder has a slow leak (a drip a day) under the trim on the corner, i stuffed rubber bands up there and it held for a couple weeks, but now its leaking again. I really can't drain the tank part way to silicone because i have a built in overflow. So can i stuff plumbers putty up under the trim on the outside of the tank? Is that stuff fish/coral safe? Any other suggestions?

fix it correctly now or pay 10 fold later.

What is the correct way? Can something bad really happen from a trim leak? Its not the corner seam that is leaking, its the trim becuase the water level is so high, if i just lower the water level it will take care of the problem, but i don't want to go that route since lowering the water level means going to a lower GPH return pump.

i misunderstood it as a leak at the bottom trim. oops. i had the same issue on my tank and just lowered the water level for a few days and siliconed the whole underside of the trim.

yeah i ment top trim, lol... Lowering water isn't an option, a couple SPS colonies would be out of water for the couple days, and water won't flow to the sump where all my life support equipment is.

Try using aquascape epoxy. I needed a quick fix on an old sump and it is still in tact after 4 years
