hello all,

does anybody have any good diy kalk reactor plans. im trying to follow the kalkenstein plans. i have the materials to do this just not the plans. im used to following prints or being a little more (measurement wise) detailed because of work always working with prints. so any detailed or explanation of procedures would be greatly appreciated.

thanx in advance mike

joey8 you hit the jack pot!! perfect plans, i love them. do you have a kalk reactor? if so you know why people use a cap for the bottom when they can just sand down the outer wall of the toilet flange and just slide the pipe right overtop of that? is there a reason they do that?

for asthetics.....it looks much nicer to use black Acrylic...for not much more money.....escpecially if you are mounting 2 Pipes next to each other....

A slightly different take.

I like that. It looks simple. The idea of not having to mount anything to the outer diameter of the tube is nice.

Thanks. The clean appearance is what I was going for. There are actual pics in my gallery.

Looks fantastic. Beats the heck out of a $400 deltec that does the same thing.

Thanks, I have about $75.00 or so in it. Probably less if you take out the 4' of tube I didn't use.

Esquare, Nice pics in your gallery. In your opinion , is there anything you would do different to the reactor. I think I am going try this thing. I am impressed. Keith

The only thing that didn’t turn out like I wanted it to was the flange (the part that is cemented to the tube and has the top bolted to it. I didn’t get the fit perfect so I had to use some thick cement to fill in the gaps.

Also, I may add a valve to the output as any time I move it or fiddle with it water can slosh into the output and then into the sump.

Also, I made the mistake of not adding code in my Aquanotes to turn off the ATO for 30 minutes when the stirrer kicks on. I ended up with a blizzard the first time the ATO topped off the sump while the reactor was stirring.

I've got a couple of Aquamedic stirrers.. I was going to build a DIY version. But the AM were only 189 each.. I didn't want to use a pump since they burn up a lot on kalk reactors.. Magnetic stir bars wear the bottom of the reactor and get stuck.. By the time I built a stirrer I would have spent about the same money and wouldn't' have the twist open flange at the top... Just my .02 on it.

I love it, similar to the GEO design.

How did you cap the bottom of the acrylic tube? Just mount it to the black base and drill through?

Thank you.

I cut a shallow groove in the black acrylic base and mounted the tube in that. Prior to that, I drilled 3 holes, 1 for the powerhead input, 1 for the output and 1 for the ATO input (which has a check valve inline).

last question - what did you use for the top flange?

3/8" piece of acrylic that I cut into a circle.
