Ok the wife finally settled my light delima for the 29g.. instead of the 29g she wants a micro 3 gallon picotope so since it comes with a 9 watt 50/50 bulb iam gonna try it for mushrooms so here are a few questions..

would the seven mushroom nano pack from live aquaria be to much for this tank??

could i also put the 5 polyp pack in ???

would a korola #1 be to much flow for this tank..the hob that comes with the tank is rated at 40gph(would like to use both)

could i put a green clown goby in the tank ?

i figure if i can maintain the water conditions in a 3gallon coral tank i can definatly do it in the 175g later on

thanks for any input...

IMO the 29g sounds easier to maintain. If u have time to monitor a pico every day, go for it. I do not recommend housing any fish in a pico tank. If I must though, a 3 gallon would be almost just big enough for a neon goby, but would no way recommend a clown goby. Too much bio load with feeding and all. The *!*$# about a 3g is the evaporation, as I hope you researched :). Just stay stocked with r/o fresh water for top off, and keep up on weekly 10% water changes (possibly more often with a fish included depending on water perimeters). You could even make your own ATO system. I think the 40gph hob filter will be plenty if you are keeping mushrooms and other softies. Seen it done plenty of times! You could definitely fit the listed coral packs mentioned in your tank, I would recommend light phytoplankton feedings and using a SeaLab No29 automatic replenishment block in the hob.

:fish1: P.S. Normally it does go the opposite way.....figure if you can maintain a 175g then you can maintain a 3g pico. :fish2:

I have had the Tom Deco 3 gal for a year and a half. I use my hob filter only for flow, removed all the media, not sure what the flow rate is, but it works for me. I had a 9 watt light that came with it and kept mushrooms under it. It burned out on me twice, so now I'm using a 12" 2x18w fixture. As for livestock, I have 2 small hermits, one snail, 2 sexy shrimp, with plans to add a pompom crab as soon as my LFS gets one. I had a clown goby until he got startled and jumped. (With 36 watts of PC's I have to have an open top.) I see nothing wrong with a small sedentary fish in a 3 gal. I do 1 or 2 10% water changes a week.

For crabs, I would recommend hermits or an emerald crab. A pom pom crab may loose his "pom poms" if not under enough lighting. As far as shrimp I would just stay away from the skunk cleaners which grow huge antenna spans. Just stick to a peppermint, a fire, or maybe a small feisty coral banded shrimp. I would add one red legged hermit and a couple sexy shrimp and one turbo snail if it were me, then just stock it with low light corals!!!
