how many use diy sump without baffels. and pros & cons
thanks in advance . going to set up sump in near future & looking for money saving ideas

You should have at a minimum, a baffle between the intake/skimmer section and the return section. This will allow a constant water level for an in sump skimmer and also force bubbles to the surface as they go over the baffle.

I separate my skimmer chamber / / refugium / return - I put a second baffle after the skimmer section about 2 inches apart and put bio-balls in there to diffuse some of the bubbles. works great.

I just switched from a DIY 55gal sump with baffles to a 75 without.

Water enters the 5gal bucket first to break the fall, it's drilled with several 1inch holes below the water line and filled with bioballs. I use a storage tub drilled with holes for the refugium between the bucket and the pump intake. Simple and works great.
