I thought I'd post this just for those that may find it useful. My tank has no cords, outlets or switches so I wanted an easy way to shut down my entire sump quickly and easily. I wont do all photos since its just a little simple project and once you have the parts its easy. You do need to know how to wire a relay but they usually come with a schematic.

Main part needed. $17 http://www.xoxide.com/remote-12vdc-relay-kit.html
Then all you need is a relay that will handle whatever it is you want to control. I used a ratshack 12vdc coil 10A relay.
A small rat shack plastic box will make it neat and tidy. I removed the receiver from it origonal box and installed it and the relay in a slightly bigger ratshack box.
Really pretty simple and handy.

Hehehe I just need a momentary contact one at the press of a button then I could shut down my return pump for feeding remotely, before I even walk over to the tank :)

I have a wireless project on the breadboard to shutdown the skimmer when the collection cup floods. I am tired of hooking a tether up to the collection cup so I set out to build a small bettery operated transmitter...
