250w hqi Height from water?

Building a 250w HQI pendant into my hood, how far should this be from the water? 65g 24" deep tank.

I'd go with 8 to 10 inches.

how about 175?

I'm going to run a 175 and a pair of t5's, I think. I figure I'll have a light cycle of about 8hrs on the MH and 9 or so on the T5's, probably a blue and actinic bulbs.....on a 36" tank

I would still keep the same height. You want to be careful of the IR heating up the coral if the bulbs are too close.
