while browsing this forum i noticed a lot of posts about protopalythoa. is protopalythoa still a valid genus? a couple years ago i heard some geneticist grouped palythoa and protopalythoa together. after a quick google search i found this http://lib.bioinfo.pl/pmid:16547410

I'm not sure what the true classification is now, but the way I've always understood it is true palythoas grow embedded in a thick mat-- almost look like a favia when closed.
