came home the whole house smell't bad.
i went to my fish tank and i couldnt even breath.

what could it be? do ballast for my MH ever go bad.????


i need help now plz

probably the epoxy from inside the ballast. Something sorted out and melted the ballast's epoxy.

Yes.. they do go bad.

No.. Ballast's should last a very long time.. Years & years. What brand, kind of ballast is it?

Was it a old unit, new, or ??? More info maybe some of us can help find out whats wrong.

it went with my 150 watt coral life mh.
its only a few years old,and today it blew up inside:/

it does happen. my buddie's shot sparks into the air once ( good thing he was there)

do u think being on a timer could make it blow up?

No. most all of us use some type of timers on our lights. Maybe you just got ahold of a bad one, or a power surge from your home's incoming power.

dought it with the timers. it might just be wear and tear, constantly heating up and cooling down can't be good for anything inside the ballast. A power surge is also possible

A few years of normal usage shouldn't cause a ballast to explode...after all, they're DESIGNED to handle the temperature swings associate with operating bulbs at the specified wattage.
