I want to set up a display in my living room with the sump in the basement. I would like your thoughts on this. I know others have done this.
What size pump? basement is standard 12 course.

I have this same setup. I personally like the advantage of doing all the messy stuff in the basement. I also like the fact that I can add on other items like a large refugium & frag tank. The major drawback is that it will take a large pump to raise the water. My pump runs my entire system. I did have to add a chiller do to the heat generated by the pump. :)

I am using a Blueline Aquapump model 100. I have had it for almost three years with no problems and you can buy replacement parts for it. It has a built in cooling fan which I think is an important option in your situation. There are quite a few opinions about large pump manufacturers out there. :D

Thanks. I have a Gen-X Mak4 but at the head height I have it would be only 800gph. I would like the sump in the basement. I wonder about the extra electricity though...

The draw on my pump is around 750 watts per hour. The draw on my chiller is about the same. When you start calculating out lights, pumps, chiller, & other miscellaneous items, you do not want to know what it adds up to each month. :eek1:
I'm using a PanWorld 100PX-MD40R with a sump in my basement. It's nice to not hear any pumps in my living room, I have plenty of room for junk in the basement, and I can make a mess.
