I don't know why I thought of this, but I was wondering if any coral is edible or if any cultures eat any coral. I know that some are outright toxic (zoanthids/palys) but what about any with food value? Just about everything else is edible (seaweed, fish, inverts, jellyfish, etc.) And no, I don't plan on eating anything in my tank!

I doubt that any would taste remotely good. I'm sure you could physically eat some of them but that's about it. I know for one thing, for as bad a xenia smells out of water I could only imagine what it taste likes and what the texture would be.

I don't know of any cultures that eat them, but Gorgonians are used in the manufacture of some cosmetics.

Some corals are used in the making of medicines as well...however, I sure wouldn't wanna take a bite out of my hairy mushrooms. Ewww...It's probably also make quite a mess out of a frying pan.
