Which HOB skimmer is better between the Octopus HB 300 and the Octopus HB 300F. The Octo 300 has 2 "towers" while the Octo 300F has a filter chamber. I'd also appreciate a why with the answer. Also, if the Octo 300F is better, what filter media do I put into it?

Thanks alot for any input!

Here are two links to the two products

have the hb 300 works great on 75. have to dump cups twice a week. does not have to be adjusted all the time like other hob`s i have had. 300 f has pumps inside skimmer body. mine are in tank. 300f is more popular on threads & ratings i have seen. i still like mine though

I like the internal pumps and one cup. I guess the two cups could be set up as one wet and one dry skim but I would not want to mess with two cups.

The 300F has a bubble plate to control the turbulence in the skimmer chamber.

As for what media to use, it depends what you need. I have used Chemi-Pure Elite. If you do use media make sure the bag does not float up and block the overflow tube. If it does you will have a flood.

If you have the money look at the new 800. It uses a much better pump.

I'll look into those-how much do the 800's cost and what gallonage (if that's a word :) ) are they rated for?

The 800 is rated for 135 gallons and runs $239.
