20gal mixed reef

If i was to do a 20-gal with some mushrooms and zoo's and a few lps corals, would i need to have a skimmer? I know that the skimmer is to remove the excess nutrients but if I dont really have any fish would i need it? Would the scenario change much if i add a clown

theres a few people out there running skimmerless tanks but i think you have to do regular water changes which you should do anyway but if you dont really have much of a bioload i dont see why not...

to mix stony and soft corals you would need the skimmer to skim out their chemical warfare

the softies will put out chemicals or cover themselves in slime and this could mess up your stony coral...i think the stony ones sting

have to be careful with certain stony in that small a tank....some have stinging sweepers that are 12 inches long...that could reach and really sting another coral
