Aside from putting to much in the DT and not having room fish. Is there a point where to much can be a bad thing?

Only in the sense of it creating a lot of dead zones were detritus is trapped and wastes sit to rot. If you pack it tightly, you won't get good flow through the structure, and you can have nutrient problems down the line from there.

+1, if you want more rock in your system for, say, filtering purposes, then add it to your sump or another section where you can direct flow through. Then you won't clog up your dispay.
