Read a little about some mesh that you modify your impeller and add.
Recently purchased an octopus extreme 200 and came with two impellers and some square of mesh.

Well one impeller is a little like a cork screw design and the other is a pin wheel.
Really don't know which to use but started with the pin wheel.

Anyone know if the mesh is somthing to persue or how you modify?
The thing seems to be working very good so maybe leave well enough alone.

Read through the MSX and Octo Extreme threads (it'll take a while, though...) and you'll find all the info you need about the mesh and overall performance and such.

The link posted by crashrat shows a mesh job done on what appears to be a NW200 Octopus skimmer. There are pictures of a completed mesh mod for the Octo Extreme if you take a look at www.reefspecialty.com and go to the skimmer section and look at the Octo Extremes. Basically, you take three layers of mesh, secure them to the yellow wheel using fishing line, and then trim the mesh to just barely (maybe 1mm) beyond the yellow plastic wheel. The goal is to make it as "clean" as possible, since you don't want the mesh to catch on the pump anywhere and cause problems. Stay away from using zip ties instead of the fishing line, as they can cause problems with pump startup and could make the meshed impeller unbalanced.
