Is really extremely small!

The new is Stream is approx. double as big as the Nano, but worlds apart from the old Stream!
Am so damn happy, that I finally received these toys!

Nice. I just ordered a nano wavebox from Reef Exotics today.... :D it will be here tuesday. I am planning on adding 2 6105's into the 120 as well.

We def. need video of this thing in action!

Stevenx2

Thanks :-)

Here's the video, unfortunately from my cell. I didn't know how to resize the vid with my Canon... :-(
I'll record another one shortly.
@LarryW:
To tell you the truth, 1 6105 is more than enough! You'll definitely be happy with your choice!!

I told you all :D. But i still recommend 2 x 6105 1 at each end of the tank, set your controller on interval 2 and let that bad boy kick sand around :lol: just kidding. You want to make sure that you will get flow throughout the tank....

Thanks for posting. Looks really nice. One thing I dont like visually on the 6105 is the wire comes out toward the front end of the pump instead of out the back like the previous generation Streams. Its much more noticeable. Can it be configured to come out the rear of the pump?

09/19/2008, 07:11 PM
I was just noticing the same thing Scott, seems to me that if tunze manufactured a lil clip that mounts next to the magnet it could pull the wire towards the side of the tank. I just pre-ordered up a 6105 so it obviously isn't that big a deal to me :)

Nice. I just ordered a nano wavebox from Reef Exotics today.... :D

I should have called...I sent an email and by the time they answered it - the last one was out this morning. :rolleyes:

So I contacted socal and got one there instead! :D

Does anyone know which magnet (if any) is required for the nano wavebox?

anne08

I think the magnet comes with the wave box.

LarryW

09/20/2008, 01:25 AM
Hi guys!

Sorry, time difference :-), so good morning!

@phil519: Thanks!
As mentioned by LarryW the Nano comes supplied with a magnet :-)

@sjm817 & wolf pup:
Concerning the cable. Yup, it doesn't look that great. I did consider turning the Stream around (after all it is 3D), but the cable does get bent quite a bit, and to be honest I get pretty paranoid, about bent cables. I'll think of a solution, maybe you guys have some tips for me??
The pumps are "breaking in" at the moment, so they still are loud. I suppose it will take a week or so, until they quiet down a bit. By loud I mean, I can hear them in the next room. I have a brick wall between the rooms. But all pumps are loud at the beginning.

sjm817
09/20/2008, 07:34 AM
Stevenx2
Thanks for the info! Have you ever owned a full size Stream? I'd be interested in a noise comparison of the Stream 1 and Stream 2 after break in.

As far as routing the wire goes, it is hard to say unless I had one to work with.

reefkoi
09/20/2008, 08:01 AM
Larry...................I was just about to link this page to you then I saw you have already seen it LOL

These things are really slick, do you know you can mount the nanowavebox in the back corner? it can fire at the short end and doesn't have to fire across the length of the tank like the larger waveboxes??
I saw Roger set his NWB display up that way at MACNA and he told me they dont have to be out in the front with the new design....

C

Stevenx2
09/20/2008, 09:10 AM
@Scott:
I'll update you on the noise issue, as soon as it is breaks in. At the moment, it's still too new and loud to say anything.

@reefkoi:
In the back corner? I wonder how well it would work then, because of the obstruction in the way of the flow. Would really kick butt, if it would work at the back. I don't understand though, why you can't use the old one that way, if it is stronger?

reefkoi
09/20/2008, 09:35 AM
Roger told me its the way they designed it, he said something about the displacement of the water in the box being the biggest factor I think, maybe he'll chime in here............

If it's not too difficult why not try it and let us know if it performs in the back out of the way?

sjm817
09/20/2008, 09:39 AM
Off topic, I notice our friends from Europe often use the "@"Name in their posts when addressing someone. What does that mean? Just curious.

@Stevenx2:
Did you ever have a Stream 1 to compare noise levels to?

Stevenx2
09/20/2008, 09:50 AM
@sjm817: :D
The '@' always gets used in our forums when you address someone. Just so the guy knows you mean him. Well it is obvious when you type his name, that the he is meant. The '@' is just meant to stress that.
Yup been using Stream 1's up to now. 6100.1 that are looking for new homes now :) . And yes the Stream 2 is - at the moment - louder than the 6100. But let's give it a week chance.

sjm817
09/20/2008, 10:00 AM
@Stevenx2:
Thanks! Please let us know on the noise comparison between the 6100 and 6105 once it breaks in. This is of particular interest to me.

Jar*Head
09/20/2008, 12:45 PM
Stevenx2, the wave in your tank is not at the right frequency. It still oscillating a bit. Play around with your controller a bit more till you get a uniform of wave going up and down consistently.

Scott, i have the 6085 which i test run in the past couple months. It is super quiet compare to the old version stream or the nano stream. No start up noise at all.

As far as the concern on the wire, they cannot make the cable come out through the back because it will get in the way when you try to turn the pump.

Stevenx2
09/20/2008, 01:02 PM
Thanks!! I'll try playing with the settings tomorrow when the lights go on again. Hmmm, maybe it just looks like that, because the 6105 is pointed towards the surface a bit?

Geez that first wave is huge! Not to mention that clam in the second film!
I'll try the settings tomorrow!
Does the 6105 pointed a bit at the surface and facing the Wavebox (set to the side though) pose a big problem?
Guess it will be a trial-and-error session tomorrow...

Jar*Head
09/20/2008, 03:34 PM
It will not affect the wave if you have the 6105 pointing upward. Just take your time and dial in the wavebox. I highly recommend to turn off the stream before you start to play with the wave....

Hi!

Update:
I think I have managed to tune the wave a bit better. I've just still got this feeling that the Nano stops flowing half a second to early. I dunno, guess there is a bit of an adjustment still necessary...
Concerning the noise, hasn't changed a bit yet, but it hasn't been in for a week yet.

The Nano doesn't have a water line. According to Tunze the best height is about 1" above your water line (without the Nano Box switched on). Hope I could help.

Clownreef, I am also sure it would work on yours!

I'm gonna try play with the settings later today, but I have to go to work soon and don't know how long I'm gonna be away today. But I will keep you posted!

Jar*Head
09/23/2008, 08:28 AM
Keep on turning that knob Steven. If you feel that the wavebox stop too early, which mean your wave isn't consistent yet...

Paul, idealy 1/2-3/4". If you see bubble shooting out and gurgling sound in your box which mean your pump running dry and the box is too high :D

Marco, wish i could help but i am terrible with computer. I think your computer doesn't support photobucket just like my work computer...

Jar Head - Great video!

Some quick questions

1. On Video #1 - can you get the same type of "wavebox" wave action on 1 new tunze? or do you need atleast 2 pumps to make this happen?

2. Is there a lot of swooshing and gurgling sound coming from all the waves? I can't imagine how the water is going down the overflow.

Thanks,

Good morning Fernando,

1. On Video #1 - can you get the same type of "wavebox" wave action on 1 new tunze? or do you need atleast 2 pumps to make this happen?

I don't think tunze will incorporate the new pump (stream 2) into the wavebox any time soon. For your information, i am running 4 wavebox pumps in that tank. It is 96x48x24... You can get away with 2 wavebox for that size tank but impossible with 1 wavebox.

2. Is there a lot of swooshing and gurgling sound coming from all the waves? I can't imagine how the water is going down the overflow.

The gurgling in the first video because the tank wasn't full and the overflow has not been plumb yet.

On the second video i fix the noise by raising the durso pipe a bit... I kinda like the sound of the wavebox. :D

Hi Steve

I guess what I was referring to on my #1 question was - if you use the new streams (and remove the wave box entirely) - will you be able to recreate the "wave". Does the controller have the ability to do that for you? Or for you to create that type of movement, you need a wavebox.

Sorry. Hope that made sense.

Jar*Head
10/01/2008, 10:54 AM
Good morning Fernando, you will need an actual wavebox to create the same type of wave. I have try to make wave with the stream but it doesn't work the same....

Welll...

I got mine in the mail today and...bleh.

Its really hard to dial in. I thought it was more of a plug and play kinda thing. The little magnet makes it incredibly unstable. It wobbles around if you turn in all the way up. It barely makes a "wave" in my tank. I have it on 24v and it doesnt do much. Of course, Tunze instructions are barely readable..

Any suggestions? And i doing something wrong?.. :( I was really excited too..LOL

drop it down to 12v, slow adjustment starting from small end on your controller. give me a call if you need any help.

BTW, i DON'T work for tunze :D. I know i spent lots of time in here to help out fellow tunze user. But i have nothing to do with the company. If i drop it down to 12V it does nothing. The only way i see any action is if i dial it on 24v...pulsing really fast. If i turn it into a slower pulse..it does absolutlely nothing.

Is it the way my tank is set up? Its a 30x30x15 with a corner overflow box.

Where would be the best place to set the box in?.. Its about 3/4 of an in. over the surface of the water..

This sucks..i was really looking forward to getting it..but it does nothing..

I dont want to look disappointed because my gf got it for me..:(

Ok, calm down buddy. Crank it back up to 24v, turn the white knob on your controller counter clockwise till stop. Slowly adjust the white knob on your controller clockwise. When i said slow, i mean super slow. Give it 1 mins to observe at the same time give your wavebox a chance to build up the wave. Keep adjust the white knob till you get the frequency.

No need to get disappointed. You got PM....

Steves absolutely right about moving the dial slow. I tell people if you can see it move it is too much. It takes a bit of patience to get a wavebox dialed in, it is not something you can just toss in and turn it on. But once dialed in it is a thing of beauty :D

Five years ago when i first bought the wavebox i expect it to be plugged and play. Well, it is plug-in but i don't see anything. I thought the wavebox don't work on my tank so i just left it there and ignore it till one of my old friend told me to adjust the white knob.

Honestly, took me 3 days to dial in the wave because i keep on cracking it with large adjustment. All my reef friends think the tunze wavebox is a piece of junk till i have the wavebox dialed in. Guess what? All of them get together and have a group buy. :D

Has the noise settled down on the 6105 yet.
I have a 6205 on pre order ans so I can only assume that it will potentially be even noisier.

@BangkokMatt:
Well I'm not in the country at the moment. I am busy Skyping with my girlfriend right now, and she just told me it hasn't gotten any quieter up to now... :-(
BTW cool city you live in, visited Bangkok last year before moving onto Koh Samui :-)

Steve,
How about a little help with my nanowavebox? I put it in today and could not get it right. I will be patient, but can you give me some pointers?

Also has anyone put their nanowavebox on a profilux controller? I would like to do this, but if I get it tuned in on the tunze controller, not sure how that would translate to the profilux.

Wellington, i wouldn't use the tunze wavebox on the profilux. I am more than happy to help you. Here is the instruction

1. Make sure the wavebox has a straight path
2. Make sure your return nozzle not pointing at it or the same direction next to the wavebox direction Ahem... Diego :D

Dialing

Turn the white knob on your controller counter Clockwise (CW) till stop.

Slowly (i mean super slow) adjust the white knob on your controller CW. Take 1 min to observe between adjustment.

Keep on turning the knob and observe till you get the right wave pattern.

If you want to find your max, keep on turning the knob a little bit at the time and observe 2 things will happen

1. the wave will get bigger
2. The wave disappear

If the wave get bigger, keep turn the knob till the wave disappear. One the wave disappear, just turn the knob counter CW to where you were. You should get the wave back and that is your max :D. If you need any more help, you are more than welcome to drop me a call....

On tunze instruction they should put a remark box "DO NOT FEAR OF THE WHITE KNOB, TURN IT SLOWLY TILL YOU ACHIEVED YOUR GOAL" :D . No tour for me bud... I hate travel. :D

Why not?

BECAUSE, the timing may not be the same. You can use the stream on that controller but i don't recommend the wavebox. BUT i may be wrong :D.

:eek1: Actually, i wouldn't be surprised if you did have it tattooed somewhere on you. Do you sleep in a XL Tunze Wavebox??:p :D j/k. I better not get this thread off track.

Long live Tunze!!

p.s: Do Tunze send you a few freebies at least for all the work you do on their behalf? Or maybe you could get them to name their next wave making device/pump after you. Stream Steve anyone?

Oh man.... from now on, everytime i see a wave coming towards me i'm going to picture it with a face saying "I am JARHEAD"!!! But seriously, the help you provide to those who need it is invaluable and a real help to newbies like myself. Nice to see that there are still some people(a fair few on RC i must say) who take pleasure in helping others.

So what settings did you guys end up using on the 30x30 tank? I'm trying to set the nano up on a 24 x 24 cube and not having much luck. I've tried going slowly through the entire range at both 12v and 24v (nothing in-between) and the best I can get is about a 1/2" wave.

Thanks...

MANIMAL,

Yours is gonna be closer to being all the way counter clockwise...like reaaaaally close. Switch it to 24v and move it VEEEERY slowly clockwise.

My 6105 has been in service for a week and the noise is probably down by 50% already. My 6055's were also audible at first and now they are silent. I'm hoping the 6105 will also eventually become silent. I'm not running the pump at 100% however since I'm getting 1" worth of wave with it pulsing 1.2 seconds from 0-70% (opposite sync with the 6055's on the other end) but I could not be happier :D I'm gonna start saving pennies for another 6105.
