Hi All ! After a few years out of the reef hobby to persue the building of an Amateur Radio station at my house, my wife and I now have time to build a new tank. The last tank was a 300+ gallon tank designed to keep the same angle of a stairway wall ( a strange design to say the least ).
The new tank design is smaller ( around 130 gallons ) in what I concider to be another strange and challenging design. But hey, we like a good challenge!! This tank will be a "walk-around" design placed in the center of the living room. Shown is my CAD drawing of the design we came up with..The overflow we designed to be a bit "out of center" to allow a little more room for rock at least on one end, but to also allow water around the entire column. Also a "dry raceway" in the column to allow for lighting cables, ect to be run down into the stand instead of cords draped across one side of the tank. I have seen similar tanks that are cyclindrical with a center overflow and were just beautiful. I just hope we can achieve somnething similar, and Im sure we can with the help of the RC crowd!
The tank is now in build process and should be ready middle of October...height of tank will be 34".
I will keep things updated here but may not have a lot until the tank arrives...Talk to ya soon!

Jeff, dude you are a mad man. Your last tank was crazy enough (but cool none the less). This one will be really interesting. Can't wait to see it in person. Oh, and it's great to see you back in the game; and to talk with ya.

Later and keep us updated.
Matt

I like it so far and can't wait to see the build.

My only question right now is; will there be enough room for heavy duty bulkheads, or, will you have to go with the lighter weight ones?

Hi,
The bulkhead fittings will be provided by the tank manufacturer, which I have used several times before without any problem , nor leaks...not really sure if they would be considered heavy duty but they work great!

Here is a picture of the PREVIOUS tank, 300+ gallons...

HI
If anyone is interested here is a picture of the tank, arrived last evening....Tank weight is 200 lbs so only took 2 of us to carry it in. We were too busy at the time so I have no pictures of it in the truck and on the pallet..I hope to start building the stand soon!

I was able to get the stand framed, now need to find some 1/4" Birch plywood to wrap it and cut doors in...

I've seen this tank and it's very unique. When it's all set up and you can walk around it, it'll be spectacular -- just like his last one.
Jeff
Sorry I haven't been following your build but I've been sort of busy. :p

Yes I have seen Frank's stuff and it's really nice. Do you think I need a calcium reactor yet or should I wait until I get corals?

As usual Frank's stuff looks good; he does real nice work. Still trying to figure out if I am going to get a calc reactor or auto dose. Hey Jeff, lets see that finished stand... I know it lloks good!!!
