I'm planning a full blown SPS tank and kept the rockwork to a minimum so the sps colonies can fill in the open space. Oh yah, this is a 120g.

How did you do that? I need to scrub my rocks which means take them out and put back in. Be cool if I could do something similar.

Thanks.

Sorry t5Nitro, I guess you and I were typing at the same time and I didn't see your post.

I used 1/2 PVC and drilled the rocks then threaded the rocks on a PVC stand with a PVC pole pointing up. If you look close in the first pic you can see the feet of PVC on the piller. The arch was more complicated and involved a couple PVC elbows and lots of zipties. lol.
t5Nitro, I bet you could still do it. Drilling only took a couple minutes and maybe you could have a squirt bottle to spritz them with saltwater during that time.

The rock is 30lbs of spaghetti and 70lbs of fiji from Bulk Reef Supply. I would definately recommend them! Shipping was reasonable and the rock was on my doorstep in 4 days.

looks cool. I like the rock formation on the far right with the top rock overhanging.

Once you get some good sps colonies growing, that tank is going to be awesome! Nice work on the aquascape!

What did you use to drill them? Was it a major mess doing the drilling? lol

here is my new system. I used marine epoxy to glue the peices for caves and holes for the fish to entertain themselves(swimming)

I just used a regular cordless drill and a drill bit that my brothers gave to me and said it would work so I don't really know what kind or size of the bit, LOL. I drilled the rocks outside on some hard packed dirt and it was kinda messy. I had a couple of the rocks break up on me but that was only the spaghetti rock. The Fiji was perfect and drilled like butter. And yet it was strong enough to hold up under the drilling.

I can't wait to add water to this tank! Will post pics when its up.

greggnyce, love your 'scape! Are you planning sps? I love the arch with the hole through the middle and the flat rock. Lookin' great!

Edit: I forgot to ask, what brand of epoxy did you use?

I think I'll just try and stack the rocks. Thanks though. Looks good! Good luck.

this is from a few months ago, since then the left side is a little different but still a cave there, and a few of the corals are moved to new homes

I used aquamend from homedepot. I have some sps from my last system that I kept in a nano while I moved. I just did everything I wish I did with my first system i setting up this one. I do have sand but in my fuge (25gl), this way I can shut it off and replace it.

Look forward to it, really good job on the aquascaping so far.

Here's mine, I used acrylic and fiberglass rods to stack rock pillars. Note this is a post hurricane-ike shot, and I need to do a bit of maintenance.

Here's my recently rebuilt 75g. Kind of barren in this pic taken a few weeks ago, but there are now a yellow tang, 3 chromis, 2 ocellaris, and a black cap basslet in there. Once I beef up my skimmer in a few weeks, it'll be time for some frags :D

Did you get that 55g yet? Are you taking the damsel to your LFS? These pics are nothing like what you can expect from your $150 maximum budget.

I'm not trying to be harsh here, but you need to accept the reality that you can't afford a tank like these... Get a nano tank and start there.

(See skillet's other thread if you need some context to this).

You got all of those tangs in there to live happy? Man, I can only have like 2 tops maybe

Very cool scape. I'm going to redo mine so I have more open swim area, but here's a FTS from a while back to give you an idea:

how do you take a full tank shot that shows everything that well?

yes no problem with the tangs. it is all about the age and when you add them to the tank. they all get along well. also I feed them alot to keep them happy, and I over skim to remove the extra waist from all the food.

Roger
My guess is it was just taken back far enough to fit the entire width in the frame, then the top and bottom were cropped out in MS Paint or other photo editing software to make it 'widescreen'.

You get stuff to show up good with a good camera :p

getting deals are an exciting part of the hobby, no doubt, but eventually you're going to need to pony up more money. I'll be next to impossible to get your entire system setup with freebies, and the tank is a relatively cheap component of the entire system.

Just keep in mind that with a very limitted budget, you'll get a whole lot more mileage out of what money you have working with a Nano. They have their limitations, but you can setup a fully stocked, sweet nano, for a small fraction of what a 55+ gallon would cost.

Good luck w/whatever you decide!

Ya, I just moved back as far as I could and snapped one  I can't photograph anything of the tank very well either. I found out the sony point and shoot we have is amazing for FTS. I took one today to test it out. It has the carl-zeiss sonar glass (vs the carl-zeiss tessar used today) which is higher quality than today's sony point and shoots and it's like a night and day difference

Don't think my lens I have for that type of stuff is really suited for the FTS thing (in terms of wide angle). Probably why.
