Alright boys and girls, I am going to host the October meeting on Oct. 11 as it stands for now. I figue this way, we can have the meeting with enough time for people to set up car pooling possibly to the frag swap in Cinci on the following weekend. I turned in shirt orders Friday morning, and I hope we will have them in time for the meeting, if not, I will try to meet with everyone to get the shirts to them.

How about a discussion of filtration. How beneficial are refugiums? Thin substrate vs. Deep sand beds and the best types of substrate to be used for either application. How effective is macro algae at reducing nitrate/phosphate. If you have a deep sand bed in the show tank, do you really need a refugium? It is sort of selfish, but these are issues I want to look into before I change over from my 44gal to a 75 gal reef tank. I am considering on going with a deep sand bed in my show tank to help with nitrate removal. I like the idea of natural filtration with live rock and live sand, but we could also discuss different types of mechanical filters (canister, wet/dry). Also what to look for in protein skimmers. How to know what size pumps to buy for different applications ( filters or just closed loop circulation).

Just a thought.
