Hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me with my birdsnest. i got it a few days ago and it doesn't seem like any of the polyps are open. it's still pink in color. should u be able to see the polyps? this is my first time having one. should i place it in a different spot? it has lots of light and flow where it is now in mid tank position.
amm 0
nitrite 0
nitrate <5
calcium 400
ph 8.3
temp 79

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
mark

The polyps are small but you should be able to see them. As far as position it sounds like a good spot. What type of lighting are they under? Wheres your alk? Any other problems in the tank? What other corals do you have? Also you want good flow but you dont want to blast them with too much.

lighting is t5s, i downsized from 180 so the t5s are over a 46 gal. bowfront approx 236watts

If you have color and no PE then I would say too much flow. Some birdsnests like less flow than others.

I would recommend keeping your Ca around 400-450. Have you tested of Mag lately? This could be why your Ca is fluctuating. I keep my birdnests mid tank with good flow. However, I am running 400W 14K MH's.

Your Alk is way low also. Should be in the 8-10 range

What measurement is your alk in, DKH or Meq/L?

I currently have two Acropora on one side of the tank. How close could birdsnest be without them affecting each other. I have a 65 gallon tank (3ft wide)
