I lost my male saddleback almost 2 years ago. I have been looking for a juvenile ever since. I have the black variant. I am becoming discouraged, and am beginning to think I won't find one. So, I have 2 questions.
First, does anyone know where I can find a juvenile black?
Second, is there any problem pairing a black variant with a standard brown saddleback?
Thanks
Drew

I don't think you should have a problem mixing the different colors. The problem is they are just so aggressive.
You can definately pair two of the same complex. If the lighting is just right the fireplace is going, the wine is dry and the hi-fi is in the background, anything can happen. Even a black variant pairing with a latz.

Is there anyway to know when the fish has become female? I keep getting notified by various stores that there are medium fish available. They say medium is 2-3 inches. Should I take the chance?
When it starts violently defending it's territory.
I was able to keep a leucokranos from turning for about two years by putting it in the same tank as two large (but doscile) black polymnus. Once I got a female I was able to pair them.
Sorry these are old.
