for those of you who have trumpet corals or candy canes can you please tell me were you have it placed in your tank. what size tank and how much light you have on it. also about how much flow do you have it under?

i am not having luck with either my trumpet coral or my candy cane for some reason. dont know if its the lights or if it is the flow. the trumpet coral is in a 29g under 130w PC lighting with moderate flow and sfter 3 days it started receding and showing some skeleton. i had it on the sand at first then decided to try further up and i have not noticed any change.

the candy cane is in my 24g AP under 70W MH 14k with pretty decent flow. it seems to be doing ok but still is not as puffed up as it was when i bought it. it is in the sand as of right now and i have tried moving it into different spots but have still not found a good place for it i guess.

thanks for any help you can give.

For the hammer try moving it to an area with less flow. They don't need much flow, just enough to move the 'hammers' some. I had mine about 6 inches from the top of the tank, and it did open, but not all the way. I moved it to the sand bed in direct light and it opened more than it ever has.

Note: I also have a 29 gal with 130w PC lighting.

candy cane prefers med to low light in mh tanks and enough flow to keep debris from settling but to much more than that will cause a problem, also they can enjoy a feeding everyonce in a while. Most is the same for the E family.

High light can be fine just do not let flow beat up its tissue.

If it is not nice and puffed out it is getting too much flow.

ok, i think it may be getting too much flow. it looks ok during the day but as it gets later it starts to sink in even more.

i hate wasting money on corals that just wont last.

either put them at the bottum of that tank or off to the side away from the light and they like slow flow, when you can see the heads stay still for a second or 2 then they move slightly becuse of the current then be still again off and on.... they will puff up

ok, i will try that. i thought they needed abunch of light though? is that not true? i tried putting them under PC lighting and they seemed to be worse off then they are under my MH light....

thanks again

I have mine up top in a AP24 with PC ligthing medium flow. I also target feed atleast once a week to each head. As after about a wek of not feeding they dont "puff" up as much. Only had this one for 2 months maybe. Started at 9 heads, has over 15 heads now and thats after fragging off 3 heads. Granted most of the heads with eaither splitting into 2 or 3 more heads when I bought it but tells me its growing. Ive had them in 2 water flows, medium/interm and low flow.... I am moving them back to low flow they looked and didnt much better in low flow. Its 3" from the water line, PC lights on a aquapod are just a couple inches from the water as well.
