Has anyone else noticed that when certain fish are added to a tank, they pace up and down the sides relentlessly for days and slowly stop. I've heard this is a sign that the fish is unhappy with the tank or does not feel safe in it. But the fish seem to stop after a week or so, is this just a natural behavior for new fish or do I need to remodel my tank to please this freckled hawkfish (yes, there are pleeenty of perching sites and an abundance of LR to hide in).

Alot of times, it is due to the fish being spaced stressed. It's understandable that they will be stressed going from an open ocean to a small (relative to the ocean) sized tank.

that's what I figured, I was just making sure that I wasn't doing something wrong, it seems to sort itself out in a week or 2

Different fish have different territorial imperatives. Those that are grazers tend to need more space since their food supply is consumed more quickly.

Lavartus Butterfly - Chaetodon larvatus.

Obligatory Corallivore, that won't survive, ever. Unfortunately.
