I am setting up a new 150 gallon reef tank. Tangs are my favorite fish and I have been wanting a Naso for years. I know that ultimately they need more than 150g. However, if I purchase a small Naso (3 inches or so) what kind of time frame would I have before he/she would need bigger housing? Other fish occupants would include one more tang (smaller species-perhaps a Tomini), an Ocellaris clown, a small school of green chromis (5-6), and a shrimp goby.
Thanks for any input.

Well most will tell you not to even do it buy I think would would be fine for a few years as long as you keep good swimming room and losts of flow for him/her to swim in.
I would never put a Naso in my 180. I prefer to stock fish that I know will be happy and healthy when they grow to full size in my aquarium. I think the Naso is a beautiful fish but is best left to much larger aquariums. Stick to smaller tangs.

there is no exact growth curve with fish eg you can't say that it two years it will be x inches long.
good advice by rr14
(unless you see upgrading in a couple of years :) )

I have a naso in a 125 and lots of flow I do know how big they get and new when I purchased. Since being in the hobby for a while I can say that it has not grown very much in almost 2 yrs. I agree with the other coments and think as long as you are aware and plan to be able to house a fish of this size then make your own choices. I value all the info and experiance I have recived from RC members and the one thing that I have figured (in life) is make a choice live with it and plan for the future.
