Red crust on live sand in refugee

Refugee has been up and running for about 5-6 weeks. I now have a red crust on the live sand.

Any ideas what this is and what to do about it.

I have been runnning a flourescent light 24hours a day at the start then when the red crust started to appear i ran the light just at night but then my algee started to look a bit lifeless so i returned to using the light 24hrs a day.

(ps i didnt have any iron in water before, i have just started to add it today)

Not so simple as reducing the light time then!

Just clean it out, it's cryno, better in your fuge then in your display tank.
