DIY ATB cone Skimmer?

I was wondering if anyone has tried a DIY ATB skimmer? Basically to make the body, I was thinking of using a 10" acrylic tube, heating the bottom of it with a pvc piping heat bender, and stretching out the tubing once it comes to temp. Then cut the tubing at the diameter that I am wanting.

There are a few other enigineering issues that I will have to iron out, but I am wondering if anyone has tried this or have other ideas.

Also where can I get an Askoll 1500 or Airstar 1500 pump and about how much are they?

Stretching the tubing won't work, you'll have to cut out an arc and roll it, then glue it together.
