View Full Version : How long am I going to have to wait?

Last night I used some of that reef friendly two part epoxy to glue a couple of frags onto the rock.....problem is that my skimmers went crazy and began to flood soon after. I turned them off hoping that it would clear up in a short while.
This morning I turned the skimmers on - and they reacted the exact same way - both of them immediately began to flood.
Anyone else have this problem? How long? Do I need to do a water change or something?

the flooding could be due to a change in water level

The issue is that the foam head is too thick - and this causes the cups in both skimmers to quickly overflow with clear water.
On the package, the epoxy is said to be reef safe and safe for corals - :( But something must of been released into the water column to make the water behave as it is - getting too foamy. I can't dial the skimmer down far enough when the foam head is over 8 inches deep!

That would have to be a whole lot of frags to raise the water level that much LOL :)
Some people have had issues with some skimmers being really sensitive to epoxies in the water. I have no issues with Super glue but even my skimmer will react a little to epoxy and overflows with brand new filter socks even after washing them. Using old filter socks and I get no reaction...
You may just have to have some water ready and let it fill the cup and shut it off dump it and repeat till it stops and then refill the lost water......or adjust the skimmer level for awhile after so its not foaming so much

That is really normal. If you can just run the skimmer for a while (doing a water change via replacing salt water) and it will calm down. Or you can readjust it so it does not overflow.

I don't know what kind of skimmer you have, but the last time I had this happen, after adjusting everywhere else I could adjust, I got the idea of cutting the air intake by about 50%. This calmed it down enough that it was able to get back to normal in a couple of hours (after collecting about two collection-cups full of epoxyish skimmate)

I would just remove the cup and run it until it doesn't go crazy anymore. I would not try to adjust the Tunze it would take to long to dial it back it.
