My tank stand is getting very crowded, there's no room for a fuge so I think it's time to expand to the basement! I found a couple long 45 gal tanks for under $100 each. What do you think of this setup, adding 30% more volume.

Pros: DT will be silent, less cluttered stand, more volume

Cons: Need to buy a new pump (snapper won't be good enough for 10ft head)

Thoughts?

I think it is a great idea. But if you keep the existing sump you will not have a silent system, you will have to do a durso or something on the drain to the basement and it will make noise. I would suggest moving the existing sump down to the basement and just T the 2 drains into one and run one new line down from the tank.

Thanks for the reply Kim. Luckily, the sump is currently silent because the overflows are piped right into the water in the sump. The noise is from the return vibration and the protein skimmer dishwasher sound.

I think I'll look for bigger sump tanks, maybe 75-90gal each.
