Has anyone tried these yet? http://www.aquaillumination.com

I am thinking about adding two above my 29g biocube. :)

I find it really cool that I could control it with my GHL Profilux controller.

You know they will custom make the rack to fit your tank exactly, at no additional charge.

Bump.

Anybody else know about these new LED lights?

I would hate to buy one and it turns out to be junk like the Solaris.

Well considering they are built after you order that does not shock me.

There have been a ton of threads on those. I would start with the Advanced Aquarist review a little over a year ago by Dana Riddle. Hahnmeister did a side by side comparison of the AI88 with 250W Phx 14k bulbs. So far they do not have the bad press the early Solaris units did. Seem to be holding up well.

Rather than re-hash all the LED threads just go search through a couple of the big ones. You'll get an eyeful plus some. Give yourself at least a weekend to read through them.

I believe Solaris is a proprietary company so whatever info you need yoou might find on that site. If I find other info I will gladly post it up for you.

I've been looking for feedback too. I have the original 24" PFO Solaris "G" series fixture, but have been wondering about getting a more powerful fixture. I saw the AI fixtures at the MAX show in SoCal last spring, and was impressed on how the warm and cool LED colors mix better than the Solaris. The new hanging rails are a bit unseemly, but they said something about being able to cut them to length and anodize or powder-coat the rails to a darker color if desired. I also suggested that the AI logo on the front facing end of the fixture be toned down so it is more subtle, but that is a very minor issue.

The one thing I hate about the Solaris is the dust that collects inside the fixture. The second is the low buzzing sound I can hear on my "G" series fixture when the fans are set to "Auto".

I would like to see more progress pics and user feedback on the AI. Any interesting thing I find I will try to post here.

JStorey seems to like his:

I have recently purchased the 24" 2x90W AquaIllumination Modular LED Light System w/ Controller. Wow...Serious upgrade (serious investment)!

I cannot begin to compare with my old setup (pc), that is for the pros anyways, but it is noticable to everyone! The setup is simple, and straight forward, but I wasn't offered any custom fit railing, maybe due to the modular nature....? The rails are smooth and sturdy, but i was not happy with the actual placement of lights on the modular rail. Per instruction, as installed on rails the LEDs cover more width than length of tank, and there is no way to switch the placement to longways...short of buying two smaller rail-sets (which i have had ordered at 29.99 each -- maybe that's another thread). The manual recommends that you acclimate the tank to the new intensity, if greater, but doens't offer much in guidelines.

Im still in acclimation/transition mode, and will hopefully be getting lotsa great feedback and hope to upgrade my livestock accordingly! If you have any questions, please ask.

I also have two over a 24" cube and have experienced the same problem on coverage. So decided to use them 90 degrees to the recommended.

When I build my new hood I will be incorporating a third module at 90 degrees to the two for even more coverage.

Great lights despite that problem and they haven't missed a beat yet.

Do you have any pictures of them over your tank?

Chris of C2 Development was at the MAX show, and may have been shooting from the hip a bit when he said the rails could be cut to length for the customer. Then again, perhaps he was saying that the customer could cut them to length? Not sure...

Thanks! im sure you can custom order, but that wasnt an upfront option from Reefgeek - unless you request and im a newb, and i got the 24" modular set up (tank is 30" x 12"). Yea, it could be done, if i had some kinda aluminum saw and trusted my bf with customizing my light set-up. i opted to order two smaller stands, making each light independent, and able to place lengthwise. When they arrive, hopefully i will be able to get my canopy back on, and appreciate the effect. I have a few pics in my gallery of the current install set-up/rails. check em out.

You can get them to cut the rails to your requirements. I asked for 3' rails and that is what they sent me.

You can also get hanging kits instead of the feet. Which I also orderedl. But for the life of me, I cannot work out how it goes together.

So the consensus here is that the fixture should run parrallel to the tank, instead of perpendicular?

I was interested in the AI LED until I realized the lights could not be turned without exposing the hardware (not a clean look).

Look at the new PFO Solaris.

Apparently redesigned and built in the US of A

Hi all -

Wanted to briefly post regarding the mounting arrangement.

Our original design was of the traditional style that was narrow and long. We found, through our testing and customer feedback, that for the majority of the tanks the current modular style suited them better. This approach provides greater spread from the front to back of the tank while still maintaining output across the length.

RetroAndreas - based on your signature, you have a BioCube14 - it is 15x15x17 inches. You could use one of our modules in conjunction with a hanging kit and it would work out very well for you.

Pwbandit - there may be some other options, if you're interested, to mounting your modules. Please email ReefGeek or support@aquaillumination.com to discuss this further.

With regards to cutting to custom lengths, this can easily be done. ReefGeek's website sells them in standard lengths, but if interested one just needs to ask.

As we don't frequent the forum daily, please email our support email or ReefGeek for any other questions.

Best regards,
-Chris Clough
