very bold pods... whatever they are! (Do you have any fishes in there?)

sorry I can't ID your clam better. It's a filter feeder.

i have 2 clowns in there. they seem to leave the pods alone. ive seen them pick at them a little but nothing major.

How long has that bivalve been in your tank. I'm afraid I can't offer much in terms of ID, but usually such things have very short life expectancies in aquaria. I haven't seen very many living ones, so I think it's rather cool that you have one. Good luck on getting an ID.

Oh, and if your clowns are like mine, they're much too sophisticated to eat anything off the ground (or glass).

yeah the clowns are picky. that bivalve? i have about 10 of them all on the same piece of live rock. its been in there over 3 months . 3 of those weeks with no light and survived a cycle.

its just a harmless bivalve. i have about 20 of them in my tanks and they have been alive for along time. a few of them have grown and have been alive for years.

i was told they are some kind of mussels, not sure how true that is or not. they look more like a clam to me though.

yeah i checked wiki. they appear to be somewhat in the same grouping as the maxima clams but there was over 3000 bivalves to search through so i neglected to find the exact one this is.. they look cool and now i have to get a cool clam for my 90 when i set it up they are so cool !

If you find a shell attached to live rock, and it's kind of ball-shaped (round, as well as inflated) it's usually a species in the family Chamidae. They're often called Jewel Boxes or Rock Oysters, although they don't look much like jewels unless the encrustations are carefully removed. They may be very frilly if they are from calm, sheltered water, or they may have very little sculpture visible through the encrustations if they are taken from active water areas.

Several people have recently reported being able to keep them alive, which is something that's fairly new to the hobby. The main problem is that they can only feed on particles from the water column that are the right size, and I can't tell you what size that is....BUT, you can probably search Reef Central and find out what the guys were feeding them to keep them alive.

Good luck & Cheers,
