Hi Guys,

Had a thread a couple weeks ago asking if anyone had experience w/ the new WM HOB skimmers. I did'nt get any replys to that so I ordered one to see what I thought. Mine is the new version being called a HX2. This new version has a wider neck and a bubble plate. Not sure if there is any other mods over the original H2.

Fired it up last Sat. and was very impressed w/ the bubble size and volume. I am running the collection cup/riser tube kind of high right now until the skimmer settles in. Have'nt had any reason to worry yet. Everything has run like clockwork.

Skimmer is very quiet, no vibration at all. It does have some micro bubbles coming out of the drain but it has only been 4 days or so. I am hoping these should settle down. I've heard of others having micro bubbles w/ this type of skimmer (HOB) and the settle down after about a week.

I was able to fit a Ti. heater and a small media bag of carbon in the drain side of the body.

I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow for anyone interested :)

I'm interested Chad. From what I've read of the original this should be a nice improvement on a good skimmer.

What size tank you put it on?

I put the skimmer on a little 30gal. cube we have some clowns in for my son.

Hey Chad, I recently got this skimmer too and it's been running for a little over a week and I am not getting much skimmate out of this. I know it's still settling in and will give it more time but wondering what kind of skimmate are you getting?

I'd also like some pictures, I'm thinking of getting the H1. They are making a new version of that model too, right?

I'll post mine up sometime this weekend. Sister took the camera out for a trip. =\

The new model is the HX2. The original is the H2. The difference between the two (as far as i know it) is that it has a wider foaming neck and a bubble plate that you see in other Warner Marine skimmers, where as the H2 do not have these two additional features.

Oh yea also how much room do you need behind the tank for the HX2? I have exactly 5" between my tank and the wall.

Hi Jon!

Like I mentioned in previous post I am not getting much skimmate out of my HX2. My tank is a 34Gal Solana. It's been running for more than two weeks now and I am getting very little skimmate and it's very very light and clear in color. Not dark nor thick. I am thinking though, it might because of of my low bio-load. I only have a clown and a Arabian pseudo chromis. Corals are mostly SPS, some zoas, and an lps or two. Collection cup is set about 1.5 inch above the cover surface.

Wondering if you have any suggestion or is it cuz of by low bioload.

I would also like to see this skimmer in action. I was going to get the new H2 but got impatient and bought the Octo 800S.

polysynth, I also have a very light bio-load and was getting very little skim. My corals were starting to fade in color so I increased my feeding. The skimmer started producing more goo right away. So I assume low bio-load is the reason you are seeing little skim. It can take a month for a skimmer to break in and start being consistent.

What are the dimensions of the collection cup? It doesn't look like there is anyway to setup an over-flow, which kinda sucks IMO. Any issues with Micro-bubbles?

Set up an over-flow from the skimmer?

At first there was micro bubble as with any other skimmer that was breaking in. It seems fine now.

Is this the new one? I was told there was going to be a bubble plate in it. Looks just like the old one.

Is there any sort of compatible skimmer box so surface water is skimmed from the tank?

Update - My skimmer is skimmer much better now. It actually isn't my low bio load but actually the water level was too low. I am getting much more skimmate but still fine tuning it.

The collection cup is pretty big. I gotta get the dimensions when I get home.
