I ran one on my 55 FOWLR and I thought it compairs to a prizim. They work, but not that great.

I don't know. I inherited 1 of these and even tried the mj1200 venturi mod on it and can't get bubbles into the cup.

I am only running freshwater for the test though because I need to clean and run vinegar...does freshwater not bubble?

Skimmers will not work in freshwater even for testing.

haha, that is what I figured, but I need to run vinegar through the skimmer and tank so thought I would try it out.

I could have sworn I saw someone running the new vertex on fresh water and vinegar and it was bubbling.

Thank you for clarifying though!

Back to the bakpak discussion...sorry I can't help, haven't had it on salt water yet!!

:D

I ran one and then two on my tank for a few years - they work well, but require constant cleaning/adjusting to work properly. The air intake gets clogged and must be cleaned once a week and the collection cup is small. Do use the MJ 1200 for this skimmer and you can skim a small tank pretty well depending on the amount of livestock you would like to keep.

If you have not got a BakPak yet, spend the extra few $ and get a HOB octopus. It will be well worth it.
