I can pick one up at a great price but are they good skimmers. This will go on a 29 gal reef with 10 gal sump. I know the insump ones are good but are the HOB?

Thanks for any help.

I have never owned or seen a 100SS in action. I do own a 100F and it is a good skimmer for the money. If you have a sump look at a non HOB if you have the room. Better performance for the money.

The F is the SS just without the surface skimmer. Is there another skimmer youd compair it to? I owned the octo110 recirculating and thought it was a great skimmer, but it warmed my tank up quit a bit. I have this skimmer offered to for 75.00 and am little scared that it will skimm like my old CPR bak pak skimmer, since they look just alike.

Well kind of. My 100F has the extra media chamber (larger body) and an internal pump. I think the SS has an in the tank pump and it is only 2 chambers. I am told the in the skimmer pumps are more efficient but no way to prove that.

I have owned several Remoras in the past and the 100F puts them to shame. I have never owned a BakPak so I can't compare to that. I have also owned the Deltec MCE 600 and it is a lot better skimmer than the Octopus HOBs. More expensive but better. Louder but better. Parts are more expensive but better .... well you get the idea.

So in a nut shell I can't give you a comparison between the BakPak and the 100SS.

Sorry. :(

i currently own a bakpak, had it since the beginning. Its ok but i have nothing to compare it to. The pump died after about a year of use and i've been using a modded maxijet 1200 with it and its just not doing the job anymore. I'm sick of having to fiddle with it every day to get bubbles out of it. Considering trying to put a better pump on it, or just buying a whole new skimmer (octo or remora.. deltecs are too expensive and too powerful for my little setup)
