I am looking for the best way to build a stand for an in-wall tank. I want to build one like rocketengineer http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1169964
My question is I already have an existing wall which I am cutting a hole as I type. It looks like I will have to tear the whole bottom wall to be able to make this particular stand. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to go about making this stand.
The tank is going to measure 78"L X 30"W X 24"H.

Looking good Mille...I took some pictures of my wall with the hole kind of cut out, just need to cut the 2x4. I'm thinking I'll have to tear the whole bottom of the wall to built a stand.First picture is outside view and second is the inside.http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii178/6uillo1/IMG_1170.jpg

I think you're right, you'll need to tear the bottom out. Plus it looks like you're going to need to put some kind of header along top and probably a post in the corner. It's not a trivial task, but seeing that you've already taken down the drywall, it looks like you're set on doing it. Like the previous post says, make sure you check for load bearing walls. A broken tank is always bad, but breaking it by dropping a wall on it doesn't sound pleasant. :-)

the walls are not drywall..it was a pain to cut out, they are made of cement with some board under it.

Well can't help you much out with the wall, since around everything is drywall, but the rocketengineer design is very solid, I use it on my 72x24x24 tank. It's not built into the wall though.

I used the the existing studs in the wall and tied into them, I build a header and a footer. The only whole I cut out was the EXACT size I wanted for the tank, and it was the very LAST thing I did.
Click my liittle red house for some views of it.
