I think you can easily do this, provided the compartment you intend for the Chaeto doesn't have a pump in it. The Chaeto I stuck in my sump eradicated Cyano practically overnight. I alternate light between the sump and the display (12 hrs. each) and found this adequate for ample Chaeto growth. I need to trim the Chaeto with every water change. Since Chaeto is inexpensive you should try it. What have you got to lose?

well the pump is on the other side, with the skimmer, but the partition wall between the compartments does have a gap on the bottom ,so its not completly cut off from pump

Love chaeto for decreasing nitrates, exportation of protein waste, and providing environment for copepods. About only negative is release of pigments into water column necessitating regular carbon use.

dont run carbon, what about having a 2-3 inch gap on bottom of sump, will chaeto get under this partition and get into pump on otherside, maybe i can block it with eggcrate??

shouldn't be a problem. Chaeto floats most of the time unless you have a huge turnover rate and it pushes it to the bottom. I have chaet and my sump has no baffles and I have no problems with it.

how much wattage do you need?how close to water surface, splashing issues??

when you run reverse lighting, what about t-5 antinics?like my antinics come on at 2pm,then m.h turns on at 3 pm,then m.h turns off 11pm,and antinics turn off at 2 am,so do i run the chaeto light opposite the main lights or the whole cycle of antinics and m.h??

I've read macro algae could use 8 hour rest period. Ofcourse my chae died and dissolved, other 2 algaes in there didnt however.
