Purple pillow is my fav to date. I have a 4-5 inch colony. If i didnt suck at taking pics i would post it. I lost my first one and then replaced it in a trade. I have had this one for over a year and a half. Nice table acro with blue to purple coration.
The pearlberry is growing on me as well as the red planet.

The red plant in not that impressive IMO. I have seen Rose Milles that look identical.

Now the Hawkins is something special, as is a few of the other blue acros they have.

Of the ones I own (N8s Green Mille, Rose Mille, Purple Plasma and Hawkin's Blue), I like my Hawkin's best, though it's still small, and the PP has good potential I think...

Of those I don't own, out of the "new" ORA stuff, I want the Pearlberry most, and the Red Planet second... Outta the old ORA stock, I want Scripp's Mille (I'm a Mille freak) and German Blue Polyp... hmm and Phil's Granulosa, and Roscoe's and Chip's and and and...

So I can't limit myself to just ONE

Purple Plasma is about the first frag anyone notices in my tank--the intense flourescent green tips and polyps, and the purple body really gets attention. My heavy in actinic and blue T5's really bring it out...

But I think the Hawkins is really lovely. The color is so unique and bright, and it's so delicate.

I just wish I had bought the Pearlberry as well. Chris is right, that really is a beautiful coral...

Thanks PUGroyale for posting that pic. I picked up a frag of that from my ORA dealer a good while back. I didn't know what it was except it was an ORA acro. Now I know what it is after seeing your pic! The blue bottlebrush and the Roscoes are showing great growth and very bushy polyps.

They are close but a little lighter in reality. This is best I can get with my point n shoot cam. Maybe some day I'll feel impelled to drop $$$ for a real camera just to take tank pics but for now I'd rather spend the coin on reef stuff. :D It is under a Radium so it does pop alot more. Here's one when I first got it. It's under a 14k here.

are you all leaving them on the ora plugs and just either gluing them or finding a whole to stick the plug in? can you cut the bottom of the plug off and then just glue the base of the plug with the frag to the rocks?

Can you just try and take the frag off the plug totally or is that not good practice for these ORA's? TIA

cato
10/17/2008, 08:17 PM
I plan on leaving mine on the plug for a few months. Then I will cut the frag at the base and glue it to rock letting the remainder to grow out another frag. :)

I've heard that the end of ORA plugs do not Dremel off well...? I Just found some spots where I could epoxy the plug right into the rock. I usually Dremel the end of the plugs off of my frags and just mount the top cylinder... (My wonderful Purple Monster frag came plugless, but it came on a SQUARE mounting! Looks SOOOO unnatural in my tank, I just hate it. And it had to be on my most expensive and beloved coral that I have lusted after for years of course...!)

Yeah, the dustins has been the hardiest for me out of the three "deepwater" type ORAs. I got the hawkin's, phils, and dustins on the same day, and while the growth is pretty slow, dustin's has been by the far the toughest out of the three, in my tank anyway. The hawkins started out wonderfully, then I light shocked it and its been struggling ever since. It has shown signs of improvement as of late, what's left of it anyway, so I'm very stoked on that. The hawkins is defnitely my favorite ORA coral.
