I've noticed that some people talked about painting the back of their tanks instead of using a background. I love this idea but I'm wondering what type of paint people use to adhere to glass that doesn't mess with the silicone. Also (this is going to sound dumb), do you ever paint the inside instead of the outside, or both?

Got to your local sign shop and get some vinyl. They can cut it to any size you need and any color black, blue, etc. it will hold up for ever. Alot better then painting it.

so I take it that you affix the vinyl to the outside then?

Paint is the best IMO, I used a dark blue rustoleum (not sure if thats right). Worked awesome

i used Black Krylon spray paint. Alot less work than attaching vinyl. I did 2 coats, each taking a few minutes.
I have also used limo tint. More work and more expensive, but does give a nice shinny look...

^^ I tried kylon and it flaked off whenever something touched it. IME regular all-purpose spray paint works.
