are there any that you can just fill a reservoir with tap water and collect the RO water into another?

i don't have a basement/suitable location to plumb in an RO unit. the closest thing i have is a guest bathroom and i doubt the better half would allow turning that into an RO room ;)

Not sure what you mean, but they all need water pressure, so you can not just feed from a resevoir. There are numerous ways can hook it up though. Garden hose, if you want to do soemthign outside, and it doesn't have to be permanent, just hook up fill a resovoir, nad then disconnect.

The RO unit needs pressure. You can use something like this that you can hook up only when you need...

Not like you are describing no. But you can hook one up temprorarily like already mentioned and put it under the sink or in a closet when you are done making water. It does take time though, a 75 GPD unit makes 3 gallons per hour at best and usually less if your water pressure is below 50 or 60 psi and water temperature is below 77 degrees, which is most of us. Thats why its so convienient to hook it up next to the washing machine or in a similar out of the way place, you can leave it running and not take up a sink.
