I am starting to acquire a lot f zoas and was curious if I would need to start dosing or feeding them? My tank consist of mushrooms, zoas, and a sinularia, and that's really all that will ever be in my tank coral wise.

I was going to start dosing VC but I am not all the way through the thread (it is a BIG thread!!)

Lighting is 5 T5s VHO

Having the proper levels of alk ca and mag are essential for these to propagate. I've never fed mine and they spread like weeds.

Guess I am going to have to get those test kits! Only thing I test in my tank is ammonia and salinity.

Zoafan, you most def need to start testing once in a while for the above 3 params. Try the SERA test kits, inexpensive but work well enough.

ever test for nitrites or nitrates?

every now and then but that's it. Everything in my tank is growing open and happy. I have a very low bio load and have never shown any trace of nitrites or nitrates.

Thats some quality water! :)

the amount you'll need to dose is going to be dependent on frequency of water changes and bioload

but i would def recommend dosing for optimum health and growth

I usually do 15g ever week but sometimes every other week. I once went a month and noticed my zoas not looking their best but after the water change they were fine. As far as bio load I have a pair of clowns diamond goby six line and yellow tang.

i would have to slightly disagree. If your Ca and Mag are off your zoas will still grow IMO. I mean of course it doenst hurt to have your levels right but i would not use the word essential.

IME, all zoas NEED to grow is light.
