I had a mild outbreak of cyanobacteria in my 9 month old tank. Everything was going great, no other algae and it started up. It was never too bad, but seeing all the posts here about red slime, I wanted it under control before it got bad. I tried some common solutions like more flow (added a 3rd Koralia), no light for 3 days. I don't use a phosphate remover but have chaeto in my sump. I've never tested for phosphates but my nitrates have also read zero. Anyway, about 4 days ago, I removed a bag of Chemipure (about 4-6 weeks old) and each day since, I've seen the cyano diminish, almost completely gone now. So, either it was a coincidence or the Chemipure was exhausted and started leaching something back into the water??

I think it is just a coincidence. Cyanobacteria grows in random spurts.
