My salinity is low at 1.020... i have a 210 gallon tank, with a 36 gallon sump.. how much salt should i add in order to reach a salinity of 1.025

Is this a Quiz ? and do we get a prize ?

Anyhow joking aside, I'm assuming this is a new tank, with no live stock ?

If so I would think 4kg would bring you pretty close, but do it slowly, maybe 1kg at a time and leave for an hr, then re-check.

If its a stocked tank, then do it by water changes, but do it very slowly, maybe over a course of a month.

I would not add any dry salt. I'd replace evaporated water with normal salt water until you get to your target. :)

I would not recommend it by water change as you'll need to make super saline water, and that has it own issues.

i go through a crap load of regular water because of water changes

To get from sg= 1.020 to 1.026 using sg = 1.026 salt water to replace evaporation will take about 24% of the tank volume to be added. So if you evaporate 2% of the tank volume daily, it will take a couple of weeks.

is 1.020 really that bad?

I would take about 20 gallons from the system.
Mix in enough salt to bring it to 1.030-1.035 then add it back into the system.Check the SG,wait 24 hrs, then do it again til the SG was back to 1.025.Just my 2 cents....

Randy is dead on. replace your evaporation with 1.026 until the desired level is reached. If you have an ATO simply fill your resevoir with SW. this raises it slowly.

agreed, best to do it extremely slowly, and make up water is the easiest approach.
